Poorabi Nanda
Poorabi is a sophomore double majoring in political science and history with a minor in international studies. A Bloomington native, she was on the SEB for Social Studies last year and is excited to continue on with IUJUR. Outside of the Journal she is involved in IndianaMUN and the Eleanor Roosevelt Society on campus. When she has some spare time, Poorabi enjoys exploring bookstores and baking desserts.
Wei Wang
Wei Wang is a junior majoring in Linguistics and Journalism and minoring in Spanish. He is from Shanghai, China. He is a news editor at the Indiana Daily Student and looks forward to applying the skills acquired from his studies and experiences in whatever future path he embarks on.
Maria Laroia-Nguyen
Maria Laroia-Nguyen is a second-year Law and Public Policy student from Evansville, IN. Outside of School and IUJUR, I am mainly involved in Mock Trial and the Civic Leaders Center. A few fun facts about Maria: she is a huge Parks and Rec fan, loves to cook, and speaks French.
Shay George
Shay is a freshman from Tampa, Florida, currently majoring in psychology and minoring in biology. Aside from IUJUR, she is involved in community outreach through U Bring Change to Mind as well as the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience program. Shay is interested in attending graduate school to become a clinical psychologist, focusing on behavioral health in young adults. In her free time, Shay enjoys weekly hot yoga at The Hot Room in Bloomington!
Madeleine Furlow
Madeleine Furlow is a junior from Versailles, Indiana, studying Law & Public Policy and Slavic Language. She is the social chair for the Healthcare Journey’s Lab, and she is researching the impact of COVID-19 on birthrights. Madeleine is also involved with the VITAL program at the Monroe County Library and is training to teach English as a second language. She is also a mentor for the O’Neill mentor collective. In her free time, Madeleine enjoys collecting vinyl, reading, and baking with friends. Her favorite album on vinyl is Blondie’s Parallel Lines.
Ellie Clark
Ellie is a senior from Carmel, IN studying Policy Analysis. She is a campus writing tutor and a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity at IU. She enjoys going out to restaurants and working out in her free time.
Joelle Jackson
Joelle Jackson is a sophomore Wells Scholar from Bloomington, Indiana, and is currently pursuing majors in Anthropology and Folklore + Ethnomusicology. Outside of IUJUR, she is a member of the Folklore and Ethnomusicology Student Association, a Fall 2021 intern with Themester, and a 2021 intern with the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Beyond academics, Joelle enjoys studying ballet through the elective program at IU.
Luke Swain
Luke Swain is a sophomore from Columbus, Indiana studying Economics and Studio Art. He’s currently conducting research alongside Dr. Vivek Vellanki at the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society. He’s also a part of several clubs at IU like Students for a New Green World and the Beekeeping club and he loves to draw, work with ceramics, and take care of his plants in his free time.
Kemal Perdana
Kemal is a sophomore from South Bend, IN majoring in Economics and Sociology. His academic interests include labor organizing, economic inequality, and the labor market. Aside from IUJUR, he is involved with the Young Democratic Socialists of America Bloomington and WIUX Bloomington, IU’s largest student media organization. He is also a research assistant at the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society. In his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, and vintage or archival fashion.
