An important part of creating and sustaining a successful research journal is the participation of faculty and graduate students who are actively pursuing and progressing research in their respective fields. The IU Journal of Undergraduate Research integrates their expertise into the selection and editing process to help achieve a comprehensive review of all submissions and create a medium through which students can learn the proper techniques involved in professional writing.
The faculty and graduate student reviewers vary from year to year and come from all four major areas of study: natural sciences, social sciences, applied sciences, and humanities. We recruit expert reviewer as needed to fill gaps in our students' expertise and provide opinions on the intellectual validity of the work in the broader field and overall quality of the author's writing.
We typically distribute one manuscript per faculty/graduate student reviewer, and ask them to provide written comments as well as a final recommendation to our Co-Editors-in-Chief: either Accept or Revise and Resubmit. Ultimately, a world-class group of faculty and graduate student reviewers is crucial to enriching the experiences of student authors and editors, and maintaining the credibility and prestige of the IU Journal of Undergraduate Research.
